Alonzo Cardenas, Joliet, IL, was selected as the 11th Lockport Woman’s Club/Pat Darin intern. A history and secondary education double major.

The internship is a continuation of history preservation Cardenas has been engaged in, including assisting the Õ¬Äи£ÀûÉç History Center. Cardenas worked in the Howard and Lois Adelmann Regional Collection digitizing and reviewing oral histories related to Lockport’s Fairmont neighborhood. With the COVID 19 pandemic, Cardenas turned his attention to applying for the Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board Grant for the digitization of the Lockport Woman’s Club archives. He also reviewed the History Department website and digital collections.

Cardenas said, “I am beyond grateful to the Lockport Woman’s Club for this opportunity. This internship has provided me valuable experience and is my first step in working in the field of history. Additionally, the paid internship makes a world of difference by helping me pay for college.”

Dr. Dennis H. Cremin, History Center director, commented: “I am so proud of this long-time relationship with the Lockport Woman’s Club. Alonzo is a leader, and he adjusted well to working remotely.”

Cardenas is looking forward to graduating next year and entering the education field as a high school history teacher.
